Masking Out Motion Regions

Motion Regions allow Users to be notified when motion events occur in areas of interest. Alternatively, they can prevent a camera from recognizing motion in areas of constant movement such as a street, television screen or foliage in the breeze.

This guide will show you how to set up motion sensitivity, both types of Motion Regions and alerts for those regions.

Cameras have a default sensitivity of 80 and a default object size of small. This default ensures the smallest object, making a slight movement, is properly recorded.

Sensitivity and object size are dependent on a camera’s mounted location, resolution and any established motion regions. 

The master motion and master object size applies to anything not within a motion region. Motion regions have their own sensitivity and object size settings that are adjustable.

When adjusting sensitivity, ensure to monitor the image to check if it’s capturing events properly. You’ll see blue motion boxes in the preview on the Motion tab when it detects movement.

1. If movement isn’t properly being captured, increase sensitivity and decrease object size.
   
2. If too much footage is being recorded, decrease the sensitivity and increase the object size or utilize motion regions.
   

1.  Click the Settings icon for a camera.

2.  Select Motion.

3.  Click the Yellow Plus to create a Motion Region.

4. Define the area of the Motion Region by clicking and dragging the icons on the edges of the shape.

5. Adjust the Sensitivity of the Region.

• With 0 Sensitivity, the camera will not record based on motion in the area.

• Other Sensitivity settings define how sensitive the camera is to motion for that region.

• Object Size indicates how large the object is in the frame of reference for the camera. Click the Blue Question Mark icon for an in-depth explanation.

6. Click Apply.

7. Click Save Changes.

Creating Alerts is necessary if you want to be notified of motion events for your cameras. After setting up the Motion Region, you can set up notifications for it.

1. Click the Settings icon for a camera.

2. Select Motion.

3. Click the Notification icon for the Motion Region you want notifications for.

4. Configure the Alert settings.

• Select Enable Alerts.

• Configure When and Re-arm based on need.

• Select Who needs to receive notifications.

• Mode only applies if you create a custom notification group.

• Level will denote the type of alert. This ties directly to the notification groups referenced in My Profile.

5. Click Apply.

6. Click Save Changes.

In order for a user to receive motion alerts, alerts must be enabled in My Profile.

1. Click Your Name.

2. Select My Profile.

3. Click the Notifications tab.

4. Select the types of Alerts you want notifications for.

5. Select the Method of Delivery (Email/ Push).

6. Save Changes.
