Overview

  • Contact EEN support so they’re ready to add the drive to the array

  • Power down the unit by doing a quick-tap on the power button (This may take a minute or two).

  • Once the unit is fully powered down, unplug the one (5/620) or two (820) power cables.

  • Pop out each drive that needs to be replaced, and plug in the new drive.

  • Once complete, plug the power back in and turn the unit on.

  • Notify support and wait for the agent to inform you the device is fully operational.

Troubleshooting

Powering Down the Unit

Once you press the power button, you should see a flood of activity on the disks as the system prepares to shut down. If you have a monitor connected, you’ll also see a bunch of shutdown messages. Generally shutdown will take between 30-120 seconds. If it takes longer than a few minutes, inform the support agent.

Unplugging the power cables on a model 820 will turn off the LEDs on the power supplies. During normal operation, they will light green. When shut off, they will light yellow. And when unplugged, they’ll fade to black.

Removing the Faulty Drive(s)

EEN chassis do not require the use of any tools to remove a drive. Do not use any tools on the unit.
Once the unit is fully powered down you can proceed with removing the faulty drive at the direction of the Technical Support agent.

The top of a typical hard drive will have a sticker that looks like this:

The serial number is highlighted in red here.

Once the physical swap is complete, the device will need to incorporate the new drive(s). The Technical Support agent may request that you stay on-site in case any issues arise.
