Hikvision DVR/Encoder Configuration Guide
Requirements:
- A Windows computer with the ability to be set statically
- Internet Explorer
- An Ethernet cable
- A supported Hikvision Encoder/DVR

In this document, we will explain what steps you'll need to take in order to setup your Hikvision DVR/Encoder to work with your Eagle Eye system.
Read and review everything carefully, as some steps are irreversible.
Identifying the Ports
Above is a Hikvision encoder. The BNC connectors on the left-hand side (if facing it from the back) are used to connect your TVI cameras to the system. On the right hand side, we have the Lan port.
To connect to the Encoder, you will need a standard ethernet cable.
This is a Hikvision DVR. The configuration is similar to the Encoder.
Connecting to your Hikvision DVR/Encoder for Configuration
Download and confirm you have the correct firmware for your Hikvision Encoder/DVR unit before proceeding with this guide.
You will not have Internet after connecting to the Encoder/DVR if you connect to the internet from an Ethernet cable. This is normal and intended.
Setting a Static IP Address on a Windows Computer
To connect to the Encoder/DVR, we will need to set our computers IP address to a static address. The address is 192.168.1.1.
1. Click Start Menu > Control Panel > Network and Sharing Center.
For Windows 8 and higher, open Control Panel and select Network and Internet.
2. Click Change adapter settings.
3. Right-click on Local Area Connection and click on Properties.
4. Select Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4) and click on Properties.
5. Select "Use the following IP address" and enter the IP address 192.168.1.1.
6. Click OK and close the Local Area Connection properties window.
7. Plug your laptop into the unit by putting one end of the ethernet cable into the LAN port of the unit, and the other end into the computer.
Configuring the Encoder/DVR
To access the Encoder/DVR (all the settings), Use Internet Explorer if available. If you do not have Internet Explorer you may attempt to access the device through another browser.
Setting the Password
1. Navigate to 192.168.1.64 in INTERNET EXPLORER.
2. Set the password to one that's easy to remember. Our standard is admin123.
3. Hit Cancel on the security questions to bypass filling these in.
You may fill these in as an extra fail safe, but it is not required. (recommend removing this)
Configuration > Security
4. Navigate to the Configuration tab of the Encoder/DVR,
5. Navigate to the Security tab.
6. Uncheck the Illegal Login Lock checkbox. Illegal Login should be turned off.
Configuration > Maintenence
7. Navigate to the Maintenence tab.
8. Navigate to Upgrade.
9. After clearing the box, go to Maintenance, then Upgrade.
9a. Upgrade the firmware of the Encoder/DVR. (Use the file downloaded from here.)
9b. Hit the Upgrade button, and wait for the process to complete. The unit will reboot after it has finished.
After the Encoder/DVR has rebooted, go back to the Maintenance page. We will need to restore the Encoder/DVR while keeping the IP settings. Restore the Encoder/DVR and wait for it to reboot.
When it has rebooted, Go to the configuration tab of the Encoder/DVR, then security.
If Enable Illegal Login Lock is not an option after you have flashed the firmware, the firmware did not flash correctly to the unit.
Disable this setting for your protection, then hit save.
Enabling ONVIF
We will now enable ONVIF on the Encoder/DVR. To enable ONVIF, go to the Network tab in configuration, then Advanced Settings, then Integration Protocol in the top right.
Hit the check box that reads, “Enable ONVIF”. This activates ONVIF on the unit. After checking this box, we will need to add an ONVIF user.
There is a user table below the check box. You will need to add a user. You may add the user using your default credentials, but for this purpose we recommend using these credentials.
If you are using audio on the Encoder/DVR , the system user and the ONVIF user needs to be the same. If you are using audio on any cameras, USE THE SAME USERNAME AND PASSWORD FOR EVERYTHING.
Example:
Username: admin
Password: onvif1234
Level : Administrator
After you have entered the required information, click save.
[We have one last step before we configure the cameras. We need to verify that the settings have saved on the Encoder/DVR. You will need to navigate to the left side of the page, where the sidebar says "Basic Settings" under "Network". Click “Basic Settings”. After the page has loaded, go back to the sidebar of the page and hit "Advanced Settings". Then review the page and verify if “Enable ONVIF” is still checked. (Is this still needed?)]
Configuring Cameras
We are in the final steps of the setup process. We need to set the camera streams to the proper configuration.
While in the configuration menu, go to Video/Audio. You will see a drop down for “Camera 1” . This is where you select your cameras. Below the camera selection drop down, there is a setting listed as Video Encoding. The setting should say “H265”. We need to set it to H264.
Set it to H264, and hit save.
We will need to set all of the inputs of the system to H264.
Select another camera in the drop down menu and set it to H264.
After you have done this to all of your inputs, we can proceed to the next step.
We will now be removing the OSD settings to prevent recording of any unnecessary motion.
Go to the configuration tab, then Image, then OSD settings. There will be a camera drop down on the page, go to Camera 1 first. You then need to uncheck “Display Name” and “Display Date”. After unchecking this, hit Save. This needs to be done for all cameras. Hit the drop down and select another camera. Deselect “Display Name” and “Display Date” for all of your other cameras.
We are almost done configuring the unit. We will need to set the IP address of the unit to DHCP. You can do this in Network > Basic settings. Press the DHCP checkbox. Hit save and let the unit reboot.
After you have set the unit to DHCP, unplug the unit from your computer. After unplugging the unit for your computer, plug the unit into the CamLAN of the Eagle Eye Bridge. You will then need to set your laptop to DHCP. Follow the steps in “Configuring your Encoder/DVR” to get to your IP settings. Then set your connection to
“Obtain an IP address automatically”.
Adding your Hikvision NVR/Encoder
On your Eagle Eye Dashboard, you will see a Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology Co., Ltd Camera available to add.
From the Available Cameras section click the Green Plus Icon next to the encoder to add it to the account.
Once it is added you will see a Three Gear Icon next to it.
From this Menu you will select the Views tab and check the box next to each Channel you want to add to the account.
After all are selected Save at the bottom.
Now add the views to a Layout and you will be able to view the camera feeds.
