Classic Vs Enhanced Interface

Currently, Eagle Eye offers two different versions of our VMS (Video Management System): the Classic and Enhanced Web Interfaces. The Classic Interface is our legacy UI, while the Enhanced Interface is our newer interface with a more modern look, improved user experience, and additional features available only within the Enhanced Interface.

If you do not see your camera listed in this section, check the following

1. The camera is properly configured with a valid ONVIF profile.
2. The camera is on the same subnet/VLAN as the bridge interface to which it is connected.
3. The camera is powered on and receiving power.

Bridge and Camera Swaps

Swapping a bridge or camera lets you physically replace faulty hardware with a new working device without deleting and re-adding it to the system. For cameras, this means you can keep all previously recorded footage from the old device. For bridges, it prevents the need to delete and reconfigure every device connected to the old bridge.

Before proceeding, make sure you have physically replaced the old faulty device with the new working one. Please make sure all cables return to their original positions.

Camera Swaps

  1. To perform a camera swap, navigate to the camera settings by clicking the three dots for the old camera, then click the Replace button. Make sure the new camera is physically installed and appears in the Add Cameras section mentioned above.

  1. Select the new camera you would like to swap in place of your old camera.

  1. Your camera swap is now complete. Please allow up to 10 minutes for the system to process. The new camera inherits the old camera's name and settings while retaining all previous recordings.

Bridge Swaps

  1. Start by adding your new bridge to the Dashboard. Please allow up to 10 minutes for the newly added bridge to show as online on the Dashboard.

  1. Best practice is to temporarily name the new bridge “Swap” to avoid confusion. The new bridge will inherit the name of the old bridge during the swap process. Your Attach ID will be provided on a paper slip in the box that contains your new bridge.

  1. You will see your newly added bridge online.

  1. Hover over the old bridge and click the gear icon.

  1. Scroll down and click Replace Bridge, then select the newly added bridge you wish to take its place (in this example, “swap”).

  1. You will see the following message. Click Continue. Please allow up to an hour for the system to swap the bridges.

  1. Your bridge swap is now complete. You will now see that the bridge is online with an updated serial number in the settings section (gear icon).

Layouts In Enhanced Interface

Layouts in the VMS are customizable groups of cameras organized into a single view for easier monitoring and management. Users can create multiple layouts based on roles, locations, or specific operational needs, and access them from both the web interface and the mobile app. Common uses include grouping cameras by department, floor, incident type, or security priority. Layouts improve efficiency by giving users quick access to the most relevant camera feeds for their responsibilities.

You will be provided with a default All Cameras layout. You will see a list of custom layouts you have created below the default layout under Layouts.

Take note of the actions for each camera within a layout.

Creating a Layout

  1. Click Layouts on the left menu.
  2. Click the waffle (three-dots) icon on the right, and choose New Layout.

  1. Specify the prerequisites for the new layout.

  1. Select the camera you want included in the new layout, then click Save Changes. Use the search bar to find cameras for larger accounts.

  1. Your newly created layout will now show beneath Layouts.

Editing a Layout

  1. Click on the layout you wish to edit. Then click the waffle (three-dots) icon on the right.

  1. You can rearrange, resize, or remove a camera from the layout.

Smart Layouts

Smart Layouts use AI to automatically reposition cameras at the front of your layout that detect motion, people, or vehicles. Instead of manually scanning every camera, users can quickly focus on the most relevant activity. Each alert includes a preview you can click to jump directly to the recorded event. Smart Layouts are available only for Professional and Enterprise editions of the Eagle Eye Cloud VMS.

  1. To configure smart layouts. Click the waffle (three-dots) icon on the top right, then choose Smart Layouts.

  1. The Events tab shows the most recent events in order.
  1. Clicking a thumbnail in the Events section opens the camera’s History Browser at the exact time the event occurred.

  1. The Settings tab establishes the criteria for an event.

Viewing and Downloading Historical Footage

Historical video refers to video recorded by cameras and stored either in the cloud or locally on a CMVR’s hard drive. Each camera will have its own historical video footage available for access, download, or archiving.  This article will explain how to navigate the History Browser.

⚠️The amount of recorded video depends on the retention settings for that camera.

⚠️ Historical video that is out of retention is unrecoverable.

Navigating Historical Video

  1. Click the waffle (three dots) icon to the right of the camera within the Dashboard tab.

  1. The History Browser opens. You can review recorded footage for your camera.

History Browser Timeline: Click and drag left or right to scroll through recorded footage. The vertical line indicates your current position. You will see the date and time listed up top. Clicking these lets you enter a specific date or time you wish to jump to.

Below are the calendar dates for the selected time. Note that the lighter colored calendar dates indicate weekends to help identify the corresponding days of the week.

A: Zoom in or out of the timeline to specify the speed of your scrolling.

B: Playback Speed.

C: Jump forward or back 10 seconds in the timeline.

D: Specifies if the History Browser plays full video or preview footage

Downloading and Archiving Video

Alert
The maximum length for a download is 8 hours. If you need to download more than 8 hours of footage, download in 8 hours increments.
WarningDownloads will expire after 2 weeks. Archived footage does not expire. If the footage you are downloading is about to leave your retention window... Archive it! The size of your archived storage depends on your account edition

  1. Click Save in your camera's History Browser.

  1.  Specify where you want your footage saved: Downloads or Archive

  1. Choose the start and stop points of the video you are saving.
  2. Name your download.
  3. Select the type of video.
  • Full video: Combines all motion events into one continuous video, removing gaps where no motion occurred.
  • Bundle: Downloads a .ZIP file that contains two files for preview and full video footage.
  • Preview video:  Downloads the preview video (live footage).

  1. Enable or disable the timestamp for footage.
  2. Specify the timezone for your timestamp.

Archiving Footage

Archiving allows you to save video clips and snapshots outside of the normal cloud retention period. This means you can preserve important footage, such as evidence of an incident or crime, for longer durations. Even after it would normally be deleted from standard cloud storage.

Alert
The size of your archived storage depends on your account edition.
  1. Standard Edition: 10 GB fixed archive storage per account.
  2. Professional Edition: 5 GB archive storage per Bridge.
  3. Enterprise Edition: 10 GB archive storage per Bridge.
Alert
Extra archive storage subscriptions are available for purchase in increments of 100GB and 1TB, regardless of account edition.
Alert
Archived footage does not expire. If the footage you are downloading is about to  leave your retention window... Archive it!

  1. On the left menu, select Files > Archives

  1. Archives are organized in a folder structure, allowing you to create folders and subfolders for better organization. You can move, copy, rename, and delete files and folders within the Archive. Double-click an archive folder to open it.
  1. You can share archived folders and clips with users by clicking the waffle (three-dots) icon to the right of the folder or clip.

  1. Click Create a Link to generate a URL you can share. Click the copy icon to save the URL link to your clipboard. Recipients do not need an Eagle Eye login to view the shared content.

  1. You will see the folder hierarchy up top. Click the listed folders to navigate.
